Tell us a little bit about yourself:
M: I was born and raised in the Bay Area, California. I’ve used lip balm most of my life but I’ve never been satisfied with any brand. I thought I could make one better. It wasn’t my original plan to sell it, until people I gave samples to asked when they could buy it.
How did you come up with the Bitch Balm name?
M: When I was working on my original formula, I gave away samples in exchange for feedback. I introduced it as Basic Bitch Balm as a joke but people responded so well to that name, I went with that name for my original formula and decided to make Bitch Balm my name for the line.
Where is it made and what’s in it?
M: I make small batches at home in my apartment. I use beeswax, sweet almond oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, Vitamin E oil, and essential oils. Every tube is poured by hand. I designed the labels, print them at home and label each tube by hand. Of course, the most important ingredient is love.
Why did you create Bitch Balm?
M: I was ride or die for years about a big name brand skincare line that came out with a new line and completely discontinued their old line. I was crushed! This inspired me to make my own skincare products. Bitch Balm is my first solid recipe that I felt was ready to market so I launched in December just in time for Christmas – great stocking stuffers!
Who inspires you?
M: I’m inspired every day by my Dad who passed away in 2012. He was a hard ass, but I loved him more than anyone in the world. He always wanted me to start my own business, taking me to seminars and lectures from successful business people. Bitch Balm isn’t my first attempt at a business, but it’s so far the most successful.
One piece of advice for young women who may read this:
M: Don’t be afraid to fail! Just keep trying and never give up.
Where can we purchase Bitch Balm?
M: MarisaEnterprises on Etsy and since I have my own printer, I can make custom orders! Send requests through my website: marisadoris.com
